While there’s still a long way to go, Falkland have put themselves in pole position in the title race, leading Division 1 by 22 points from Tring Park.  It’s been 10 years since Falkland took on the best in the region in the Home Counties, but a record of nine wins and just two defeats this term has seen them power to the top of the table.  Skipper James Bird, who hit 52 in Saturday’s crushing nine-wicket defeat of Reading, said: “There’s four games to go and four wins would be nice! “Promotion is the goal – we just need to keep our heads down, keep doing what we have been doing and take it game by game.  It would be massive for the club.   “We have got a great pavilion and a great junior set-up, and it would be great to go up.”

It has been a real all-round team effort from Falkland this season.  Overseas stars Lachie Field from Australia and Kiwi Eliot Seddon have played a major role in the results so far, while Brandon Gilmour, Seb Chapman and Bird have all been outstanding.  Seddon is in his second season with the club, while Field is playing in England for the first time.  Bird said: “Lachie is loving it and has been brilliant, despite it being difficult to adapt to the conditions and climate.”  Falkland face another huge game on Saturday as they host Beaconsfield.  Victory would move them a step closer to their Home Counties dream.  Wishing them all good luck for the remaining matches, and hoping their winning streak continues!
