Our History

The ServiceMaster Franchise Brand is a global Brand that was founded in the USA in 1929. ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland began in the UK in 1991 after Nick Dee Shapland purchased his first ServiceMaster Clean franchise licenses. We now have licenses to cover commercial cleaning, residential cleaning and restoration cleaning across Reading, Newbury, Winchester, Basingstoke, Andover, Oxford, Swindon, Bristol, Bath and Avon.

ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland today is the largest ServiceMaster Clean Franchise in the United Kingdom. We employ over 400 staff and have a fleet of over 70 vans on the road. We are proud to have won ServiceMaster’s Top Award, the Marion E. Wade Award for Excellence on 4 occasions and in 2013 won the British Franchise (bfa) Top Award for Customer Service.

Our People

We are an Employee Ownership Trust

With 30 years of knowledge and experience in the cleaning industry, in June 2021 ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland became an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), meaning that the trust holds the shares of the company on behalf of all the employees of ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland. This not only protects our business culture which has developed over 30 years, but also our people, many of whom have been with us for years. We know that our people make the difference. With the culture they embrace, you have peace of mind that they will treat you and your premises with total respect.

At the Core of ServiceMaster’s standards is the correct and ethical way in which we conduct ourselves and our business. From the way we provide services to you the customer to the relationship we have with our employees, our principles encompass our moral standards and determination to always be truthful and to deliver what we promise.

We recognise that our success as a company rests upon the performance of our people. Developing, contributing and valuing our people is important to achievement and the feeling of a job well done.
To pursue excellence is to believe that no other than “the best” is worthy of our focus and our people’s effort. So often today excellence is not defined as much by what we do as how we do it. Our Human Resources & Business Service Department set up in 2010 aids all other departments and helps make policy decisions enabling the business to benefit financially, legally, structurally, procedurally and contributes to Best Practice and Performance, taking into account Internal and External forces and steers the company away from legal liabilities. Equally importantly, it is there to look out for the well being and rights of its People.

In order to provide outstanding customer service the business is set up as follows:

  • 5 Business Departments working with and supporting our 3 Service Divisions
  • Each Department and Service Division has its own Management Team
  • Our Business Performance is managed and audited by our Quality Assurance Management Program – QAMP
  • ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland is externally audited by ISOQAR

Our Structure

ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland with 30 years experience in the cleaning industry appreciates the importance for it’s People to have a structured business in place, with the relevant working processes, enabling it to provide Quality Cleaning Services.

Our objective as a business is to provide great customer service and to be able to achieve that, we as a business try to facilitate the right working environment for our people to work in, which we are in the pursuit of. We have in place:

Our company culture is focused around looking after people, both within the company and in our wider community. Our working relationship with local housing associations further underpins this ethos. Social Responsibilities

Cardiac Risk In the Young (CRY)

CRY’s work is around preventing sudden young cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families. It is a cause that we feel passionately about. Each year CRY do a Heart of London Bridges Walk in the summer to raise awareness and money for this fantastic cause. Not only do our staff participate and fundraise, but the company also makes a donation.

Macmillan and Children In Need

Every year our staff do a Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise money, and the company also makes a donation. Similarly, we make an annual company donation to Children In Need, in addition to special fundraising events on the day that vary from year to year, including a sponsored car wash.

Local Sports Teams

We are also proud to sponsor local sports teams, and are involved with both Newbury Rugby Club and Falkland Cricket Club on an ongoing basis. We have all seasons covered!

ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland has for many years been supporting: Local Sports clubs, with the knowledge that it reaches out to all areas of the community, from children: boys and girls, Adults: men and women and those that are disabled. Local Amateur Dramatics has again been an area that we have supported for many years.

Environmental

ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland has an ongoing commitment to reduce our environmental impact wherever possible and play our part in contributing to sustainable environmental practices.

This takes on many forms across the business including:

  • Waste management, recycling and paperless working
  • Reduced electricity consumption via smart technology and utilising an energy supplier with renewable sources
  • Reduced water consumption via upgraded cleaning tool investment and spotless water use
  • Reduced use of plastics via recycling, re-use and selection of non-plastic options where possible
  • Choosing more sustainable products and consumables like biodegradables, pre-diluted products, and bamboo hand towels/toilet rolls
  • Reduced fuel consumption via investment in increased electric and hybrid vehicles, increased technology use and car sharing to reduce vehicle use and speed restrictions on company vehicles

Acts to reduce paper consumption by:

  • Only printing essential documents
  • Print black and white, double sided
  • Sorting and recycling paper
  • Recycle waste ink cartridges
  • Sending payslips and invoices by email
  • Introducing CIRUS for paperless work scheduling/jobs/auditing
  • Part of Xerox partner Print-Relief to offset paper usage by planting

  • Regularly refreshes vehicles within the fleet to EU level 6 standard

Reduce electricity consumption by:

  • Air conditioning system on a timer and power levels adjusted for summer and winter
  • Lights turned off when rooms are empty
  • Computers enter sleep mode when not in use and turned off overnight
  • Programme of updating lights to LED in progress
Reduce water consumption through:
  • Efficient long reach window cleaning poles
  • Flat mop systems
Reduce use of plastics:
  • Re-use of plastic containers for cleaning products
  • Recycle plastic containers at end of life
  • Select non-plastic crockery, plates and cups
  • Re-use stationary
Products and Consumable:
  • Products are biodegradable
  • Pre-diluted products ensure correct amount used
  • Plastic wrappers replaced by boxes on some products notably hand towels and toilet rolls with a greater number of units per box
  • Bamboo hand towels and toilet rolls are available
  • Access to Spotless water in various regions to prevent wasting travel and fuel to fill up

ServiceMaster Clean by Deeland is an accredited BICSc Training & Service Centre, which means our standards combine expert knowledge from highly regarded industry professionals allowing ServiceMaster Clean to deliver accredited training and best practice to the industry.
