Meet the team.  Our people are at the heart of what we do, so we are continuing our ‘meet the team’ series with Antia Pye, our Residential Co-Ordinator, telling us about how she moved here from Spain and has now come to be a key part of the ServiceMaster By Deeland team.

Antia completed her Economics degree at university near her home in North West Spain.  Her first student job was in a bar and this taught her all about customer service and working in a consumer facing role.  Shortly after graduating she decided to move to England to work as an au pair to improve her language skills.  It was while looking after a family with three small children in Woking that she met her future husband.  He was based in Newbury but, as she says  “three trains between us did not weaken our love” and in fact she has remained living in England ever since. They have now been married 8 years and have two sons together so the complicated train journey between Woking and Newbury definitely did not get the better of them!

Having perfected her English, her next move was into the hotel industry working in various hotels in London before starting at The Chequers Hotel in Newbury on reception.  Over the years she worked her way up to be the General Manager, and was never phased by the semi-regular appearance of naked guests in the middle of the night who had got a bit disorientated looking for the bathroom and locked themselves out of their rooms!  She started working with our Operations Manager while there (and organising the ServiceMaster Christmas lunch) and he quickly recognised her excellent customer service skills and asked her to join us at ServiceMaster by Deeland, running the Residential department.  In her spare time Antia is an avid cross-stitcher and baker.  Her baking is a particular bonus for everyone in the office when she brings in delicious things that have stretched her creativity – such as pistachio cupcakes for our ‘Wear It Green’ day for mental health awareness.  We are lucky to have someone so talented to keep us supplied with fabulous treats!
